Iron Man and Mr. Fixit: A Night with Mac and Fixit (Frank Free Episode!)

FRANK FREE PODCAST!
Since our old buddy has been banished to the Negative Zone, Mac and Fixit decide to take a shot at this whole “podcasting” thing on their own.

The two guys break down the only Fixit/Iron Man crossover they could find. Iron Man #247 (October 1989) and Incredible Hulk #361 (November 1989) is a quick, caper style story bringing together not only two of our favorite characters, but ICONIC creative teams of Dave Michelinie/Bob Layton for Iron Man and Peter David/Jeff Pervis for Hulk.
Mostly, we just needed something that Frank wouldn’t be pissed at us for covering. LOVE YOU, BRO!

Note: We like our language NSFW salty, and there be spoilers here. Episode art tumblr here.

As you can tell, we love a fierce conversation and a pretty picture, so why don’t you socialize with us, either by leaving a comment on this page or…

  1. 1. I laughed, but you’re still sons o’bitches.
    2. Why does it sound like cicadas are chirping in the trees? Did you guys record this on a 1972 wall-mounted reel-to-reel audio tape, or what?
    3. As much as I want to talk shade, Mac edited this episode better than 99% of all comic book podcasts all on his own! As a completely uninvolved passive audience member listener (you pricks) I breathe a sigh of relief at the smooth ummmm-less stream into my ear holes.
    4. Linda Tripped is a good adverb. It paints quite the word picture.
    5. I actually never read the Iron Man half of this two-parter. Bob Layton looks like he just drew a Bronze Age Hulk and let the colorist deal with the continuity.
    6. Fixit has a lot more to say when I’m not around. Feeling like I’m sucking the air out of the room there.
    7. Who the fuck is Tim Dzon?
7a. Research reminds me that he used to ink Ex-Mutants and a bunch of early ’90s Marvel crap, but most notably embellished Dave Ross on Avengers West Coast.
    8. Good stinger. Don’t see how this is a mini-episode though, and I’d suggest renumbering it 10, then make Super-Skrull #11.
    9. So did you pull the boilerplate audio files off an old episode, or take advantage of their being on two drives currently in Mac’s possession?
    10. Good episode, guys! I hardly missed me at all! Of course, if you’re all antsy in your spare time, you could edit a previously recorded two-parter or read the books I left with you for our first non-Marvel podcasts. Whip… Cracked.

  2. I actually removed a lot of the chirping. It was much worse.

Agreed on the Layton cover. That’s green hulk covered grey.

I edited the intro/ending (forgetting the copyright jargon) off of an old episode.

Its not really a mini. Should have been. We really didn’t need to play-by-play the entire episode. This was more an experiment. I kept pulling books out saying “we could read this! …..naw, Frank would want in on it too…” Until I found these books.

Fixit and I had a blast. That’s all that matters.
