Face Front, True Believer! Our attempts to record an episode on the Jessica Jones TV show from Netflix have been plagued by delays and technical difficulties, including only recording five minutes of an hour-long first try that mostly centered on co-hosts Illegal Machine and Diabolu Frank! We finally got a full length show “on tape,” with a fired-up Mister Fixit besides, so sorry that the audio quality is like unto tin cans connected by string! First we give an overview of the history of Marvel Comics’ adults-only MAX imprint, with special mentions for Punisher, Nick Fury, and… Rawhide Kid? Then we look at Alias, the three year long solo series where the super-heroine Jewel, A.K.A. Jessica Jones, made her debut (and which provided the source material for the television adaptation!) Finally, we get into the TV show itself, which trades Carol Danvers for Trish Walker as the star’s bestie and emphasizes Luke Cage as her love interest (in his own live action debut!)
Excelsior!

Face Front, True Believer!

This week we return to Marvel’s ex-Soviet super spy Natasha Romanoff for spotlight episode #2.5! After being an Iron Man villain and a Hawkeye femme fatale, the Black Widow hangs up her fishnets and goes ginger, donning a more film-familiar costume and gadgets to fight crime! Petty, prosaic, politically problematic street crime! And also your Friendly Neighborhood Web-Head, beginning in July 1970’s The Amazing Spider-Man #86 by Stan Lee & John Romita! Then we continue to her first “solo” series (she was a glorified back-up for The Inhumans) in the bifurcated anthology Amazing Adventures #1-8 (1970-1971,) although we only synopsize the first three by Gary Friedrich (him again) and John Buscema! Beware the Black Widow’s stinger! It’s a knockout! Excelsior!

Face Front, True Believer! This time we cover the supposed final Wolverine movie for Hugh Jackman, the possible last ride for Patrick Stewart as Professor Charles Xavier, and Praise HaShem, not so much as a mention of Magneto for once! Plus, the cinematic Deadpool stinger that left out the Stan Lee cameo! Excelsior!

Face Front, True Believer! After a lengthy hiatus, we’re back with two full hours of mediocrity (to be generous) and tedious statistical analysis of a mainstream media outlet’s superficial understanding of the concept of super-heroes, too much of it coming from Frank! Illegal Machine tries to keep up enthusiasm as best he can, while Mister Fixit throws in the towel about halfway through! Look, our new mobile mixer had another cock-up and we lost our episode on Jessica Jones, so this is the best we could scrape together to salvage the night! Excelsior!

Face Front, True Believer! It’s Christmas time children, so here comes Satan ‘cuz we’re a pack of heathens, obviously! Daimon Hellstrom is coming at’cha straight outta 1973 ahead of the Satanic Panic of the early 1980s! The brother of Satana debuted in Ghost Rider #1 before appearing in another 7 issues of that title plus 13 solo appearances in Marvel Spotlight and 8 issues of his first eponymous series! Not only do we discuss the early career of the future Hellstorm, but we also consider Satanism in general, the AMC Preacher series, and compare and contrast with other demonic characters with endless spoilers thrown about! We finally settle in on the ultimate issue of Son of Satan, one of the most sensational inventory stories of all time, with such scintillating art by Russ Heath it required we bother to post a gallery! Face Front, True Believer! Illegal Machine, Mister Fixit & Diabolu Frank return to Jack Russell! By which we mean probably at least two-thirds of us forgot that we’d touched on him already on the first Tigra episode, definitely including Frank, who just wanted to blow out a Halloween episode with an easy out of continuity mini-series Fryhole loaned to Fixit loaned (unbidden) to Frank years ago! But don’t fret Real Frantic One, because we all enjoyed a book from a line tailor made for our combination of grossly immature language/subject matter and being a Permanent Marvel Maximus with the “MAX” adult content boutique line! 2009’s Dead of Night featuring Werewolf by Dead, despite featuring a lengthy redundancy in title, is a kick butt four-parter by Duane Swierczynski and Mico Suayan! Plus, we go off into the wilderness to howl at the moon over the Universal Monsters, Frankenstein, Legion of Monsters, Power Records, Monster Squad, werewolf movies in general and The Howling franchise specifically! Plus, the Mighty Marvel Mail Bag! Excelsior!
