Thanks to soft sales and a troubled market, Blackthorne’s 1987 Timeline full color shared universe comic titles failed to launch, shuttering after just two of the proposed ten books shipped their first issues. This is the conclusion of their story, as material is released in various formats and in fits and starts, when it appears at all, beginning the following year. Who will survive, and what will be left of them?

What if the rollout of a proposed small press full color super-heroic shared universe came out more like an Agatha Christie murder mystery? It’s Ten Little Launch Titles, with a host of announced established talents across 1987– but how many of the names will show up, which titles will actually see release, in what format, and when exactly? Diabolu Frank is on the case, and his suspects include Neal Adams, David Ammerman, Arnel Avetria, Dell Barras, Dante Barreno, Mark Beachum, Norm Breyfogle, Frank Cirocco, Sam de la Rosa, Tony DeZuniga, Jan Duursema, Dennis Francis, Dante Fuget, Mike Gustovich, Mark Wayne Harris, Phil Haxo, Doug Hazlewood, Rich Hedden, Jack Herman, Bob Ingersoll, Peter Iro, Bruce Jones, Michael William Kaluta, Joe Kubert, Victor Laszlo, Tom Mandrake, Lee Marrs, Cliff MacGillivray, Tom McWeeney, Chris Miller, Adrian Moro, Kevin Nowlan, Steve Perry, Jim Reddington, Rico Rival, P. Professor Charles “Chuck” Coletta lends his pop culture expertise to a discussion of one of the most popular and influential comic strips of all time, Chester Gould’s Plainclothes Detective Dick Tracy. While Chuck & Frank give an historical overview, the emphasis is on the character’s stories since the 1990 Disney/Buena Vista Pictures film, including The Complete True Hearts and Tommy Guns Trilogy by John Moore & Kyle Baker, Dick Tracy: Dead or Alive by The Allreds & Rich Tommaso, and Dick Tracy Forever by Michael Avon Oeming.

Frank begins a new(ish) solo(ish) podcast that’s basically DC Bloodlines but with non-DC/Marvel/Image super-heroes. First up is the African-American collective Ania (Ah-Knee-Ah, despite repeated mispronunciations on the episode,) the Milestone Media of the indie comics scene (but they would not appreciate that description!)

Copious archival interview material spotlights Omega 7 Comics’ Alonzo Washington & Tony Jappa on Original Man, Omega Man, Darkforce & The Mighty Ace; Africa Rising’s Eric Griffin on Ebony Warrior; Dark Zulu Lies Comics’ Nabile Hage on Zwanna, Son of Zulu; and U.P. Comics’ Roosevelt Pitt Jr. on Purge; plus Afrocentric Comic Books’ Heru, Son of Ausar by Roger Barnes.
