Face Front, True Believers! As part of a Super Blog Team-Up crossover, the boys look at The Shadowline Saga, four interconnected “realistic” super-hero titles created by Archie Goodwin and written by D. G. Chichester & Margaret Clark that were published in 1988 under the Epic Comics imprint! The emphasis is on Doctor Zero, an eight issue series about a near-immortal “Shadow Dweller” of great power who pretends to be a costumed savior while secretly manipulating Cold War politics! Mister Fixit, Diabolu Frank and Illegal Machine also take a brief course on “independent comics” and tour other failed Marvel imprints ahead of their being folded into the Marvel Universe proper as part of Secret Wars 2015! 1. I don’t think I remember Shadowline at all, even its existence. How about doing a little something about Clive Barker’s Razor’s Edge line? Or Marvel’s aborted attempt at Vertigo… what was it called, Frontier? There was a special with the series “pilots” and then abrupt cancellation. I have it somewhere. It includes a Mature Readers Dr. Strange for sure, and some barbarian strip I think…

Anyway, I’ve got a trusty Slings & Arrows book as well. Big fan of it.

Mac and Fixit: You ever want to sarcastically tell Frank things like “yes PROFESSOR”?

  2. This episode really planted a bug. I ordered all of Doctor Zero, Power Line, the first 4 of St. George and all but issue seven of Critical Mass on ebay. My wife is right. I shouldn’t be allowed to listen to podcasts.

  3. This MIGHT be the greatest comment we’ve ever had. Ha!!!!

You’re not the first we’ve inspired to go grab some of these issues. I’m telling you the concept of the universe was sound. -Mac

  4. HEAD UP True Believers! The Shadowline stuff shows up in Secret Wars’ Squadron Sinister #1 this week! I wouldn’t have known what they were talking about without your podcast!
