Marvel vs X-Men: Here is an interesting article on Marvel Comics burying the X-Men. Dovetails nicely with your discussion. I wonder if this same philosophy applies to them burying Deadpool too.

Marvel Digital Unlimited: Not related to your episode specifically, but Marvel related. Last week I subscribed to the Marvel Digital Unlimited service and it’s changed my life! In the last week I’ve been reading TONS of Marvel comics. Been digging 80s Daredevil, early Uncanny X-Men, recent X-Men, and even Alpha Flight (yes, Alpha Flight). My step-son is also using my log-in to read tons of Deadpool comics. I think I’ve read more comics in the last week than I read in the entire 2014. A year subscription works out to less than $6 per month. Drop two ongoing Marvel books, and the service pays for itself. Plus, once a comic has been on the shelf for six months, it shows up in the Digital Unlimited service. I’m a patient guy, I can wait six months for my Daredevil and Hawkeye. This subscription service is a brilliant move by Marvel transitioning the customer from a consumer model to a subscriber model. Demonstrates that Marvel is vastly superior to DC in the digital arena.
Spider-Man in Avengers: I consider myself a fan of the Avengers comics. While I don’t read them anymore, I did faithfully follow every Avengers title for nearly 20 years. While I realize many classic Avengers fans struggle with Spider-Man as an Avenger (see NotFrank1), you have to accept that he’s no longer a newcomer to the team. He’s been a member of the Avengers for 10 years now (that’s 20% of the entire Avengers history). How long does he have to be on the team before people accept him as an Avenger? Is it just because NotFrank1 didn’t read any Avengers comics with Spider-Man on the team? Does that invalidate his status among Earth’s Mightiest Heroes? Get over it, NotFrank1.
Guest Appearances & Sickness: As a previous guest on your show, I can validate Count Drunkula’s health condition. Guest appearing on the Marvel Super Heroes Podcast may cause vomiting, fever, night sweats, clown feet, nightmares, swelled pituitary gland, earwigs, baldness, polka dancing, and an increased risk of serious and sometimes fatal stomach ulcers and bleeding. Elderly patients may be at greater risk.
OHOTMU: You heard it, folks! Frank admitted that DC’s Who’s Who is better than Marvel’s OHOTMU!! If you do ever get around to recording an OHOTMU podcast (fat chance), I offer my services to cover the best Marvel characters ever… Armadillo and Frog-Man.
NotFrank1 is your “Shag”: I was so thankful you finally ran out of audio clips of me to insert from our four-hour marathon recording session back in December. And right as I had that thought, you insulted me by comparing NotFrank1 to me. Really? That guy is the best “Shag” you can come up with for your show? Pale comparison my friend. Maybe if I hadn’t had any sleep for six days, turned off my profanity filter, took a bunch of Quaaludes, and forgot what cool superheroes were.
Frank, so sorry to hear about your car and monitor. Rough week. Just a thought on your computer, I’ve come to rely on a file backup system called CrashPlan. Backs up whatever data you want to the cloud and you can access from any computer. It’s saved my tail a few times, and been a huge help when I’m out of town away from my computer and need files.

All of this talk about the Hell’s Kitchen stuff makes me think you have a ton of material to mine in future episodes.
For me, I would love to hear you guys talk about Iron Fist – whether it is the original Claremont/Byrne stuff, or those guys closing out a major storyline in Marvel Team-Up, or the tremendous tremendous Fraction/Brubaker/Aja Immortal Iron Fist!
I also love Alias, the Brubaker run on Daredevil, and the Waid run on Daredevil. All great stuff.
This whole stuff about Marvel hiding characters feels like an internal Civil War. But the idea of making the Inhumans the next big thing while tucking Xmen and FF away seems odd.

Speaking strictly from a cinematic perspective, Spider-Man shouldn’t be an Avenger because he’d be redundant from a personality standpoint. Theyve already got Avengers out there that still need to be fleshed out (Hulk, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Vision, etc). Last thing they need to do is inject MORE characters that take up a lot of screen time.
Yeah…I didn’t get the Shag reference….maybe because we both have a bit of bombast?
Haven’t heard your show, though, so that could be why I dont get the comparison.

Punisher should work as a movie because he’s basically pulled from movies, but you’re right, he could be anyone. As an MU character, he should play the role he originally played in the Spider-Man comic; he’s a contrast to the other heroes. Alone, he’s just another movie vigilante. All good points. For the record I’ve never seen the Lungren film. I really liked the Jane film, which felt to me like Grant Theft Auto Vice City and I liked that. HATED HATED HATED the boring War Zone.
Good Captain America villains beyond the ones we’ve seen: MODOK, Machinesmith, Serpent Society (let’s do an awesome G.I. Joe/Cobra story RIGHT), Flag-Smasher could have potential, Taskmaster. You know, I’d love to see a movie that uses the Captain/U.S. Agent story arc where Cap is “fired” by the government and ends up going up against his crazed successor.
Frank’s Jack Black impression is pretty good!
Very cool idea for OHOTMU, but sounds like a logistical nightmare.

I’m trying to ID the Black Panther artist from that T-shirt but I can’t lock it down. I don’t think it’s any of the guys who contributed to Jungle Action, like Buckler, Kane, Graham, or Bingham. If I had to bet I’d say Gene Colan, but that might be wishful thinking because I love Black Panther and I love Gene Colan.
I gotta say, Frank is more Shag than Ill Mac is. Like Shag, Frank is much more inclined to opine on a topic with knowledge and enthusiasm beyond its level of interest, whereas Mac–if he doesn’t give a fuck–will say who-gives-a-fuck and move on.
