Face Front, True Believers! Diabolu Frank & Illegal Machine with Mr. Fixit in tow are back to back to meet Stephen Strange for the first time all over again! This episode, we look at the earliest origins of one of the first and finest heroes from the House of Ideas in Stan Lee & Steve Ditko’s stories from Strange Tales #110-111 & 114-115 (1963) and Doctor Strange #169 (1968) by Roy Thomas and Dan Adkins! These stupendous stories see the introductions of The Ancient One, Baron Mordo, and Nightmare, accompanied by audio excerpts from the 1967 WBAI New York radio show and animated appearances! Also included is talk about the 1990s run and a surprise cameo appearance by one of the creators from that period! Excelsior!

Face Front, True Believers! It’s been three weeks since our last #MarvelSHP, which is like one-third as long a wait as for the last one, so we’re getting better! Illegal Machine returns to join Diabolu Frank to look at the 2004-2005 mini-series Strange, which was intended to be a sort of Ultimate Doctor Strange re-imagining by J. Michael Straczynski, but his protégé Samm Barnes got top billing over artist Brandon Peterson, and this revamp has been largely forgotten in the decade since its publication. That’s strange in itself, since it was clearly the basis for the 2007 DTV cartoon Doctor Strange: The Sorcerer Supreme, and ranked between #24-53 in the top 100 comics sold in North America, selling 36-60K copies each during its six month run. That’s far better than anything starring the Master of the Mystic Arts since the last time he had his own ongoing series in the early ’90s. We reevaluate the book to see if it was undervalued, or if it just damaged the property in a highly visible manner. Also, we briefly mention Mark Waid & Emma Rios Strange 4-issue mini that bombed in 2010 (debuting at 89th place with 23,362 copies and plummeting from there.) Episode art tumblr here. Excelsior!

Face Front, True Believers! Mister Fixit, Illegal Machine and Diabolu Frank are back to slogging through the proposed comic book movie slates of Marvel Studios versus Warner Brothers/DC. Fixit catches up with the conversation of our first episode in this series by addressing Black Panther v Cyborg (00:33) and Guardians of the Galaxy 2 v Suicide Squad (16:34) while the full trio delve into newer territory with Doctor Strange v The Flash (03:27). Then Mac and Frank climb into the Mighty Marvel Mail Bag (22:05)! Excelsior!

To clarify on commentary in the mail section, Jem debuted as part of Super Sunday, a half-hour anthology cartoon co-produced by Sunbow Productions and Marvel Productions that ran for a year beginning in October of 1985. Segments included Jem, Robotix, Inhumanoids, & Bigfoot and the Muscle Machines. Two of the segments never progressed past the show, Inhumanoids spun off into a thirteen episode series, while Jem ran 65 episodes before wrapping in 1988. ThunderCats debuted in January of 1985, SilverHawks in September of 1986, followed by the much less successful TigerSharks and the Super Sundayesque The Comic Strip, all from Rankin/Bass Productions.
